ChLPS Canada – The Chartered Body for Loss Prevention Professionals

Our History

The Association of Chartered Loss Prevention Specialists of Canada was founded in 2021 and federally incorporated with the purpose of advancing professional excellence in the field of business and corporate loss prevention. Its creation was driven by a clear recognition of the growing complexity and severity of threats facing modern organizations. Our founders understood that businesses needed a deeper, more sophisticated knowledge base to meet these challenges and to build stronger, more resilient operations.
The Association was established by seasoned practitioners who recognized the urgent need for consistent standards, structured education, and a formal professional pathway within the loss prevention discipline. Their goal was to create a national standard setting body that would elevate the profession, promote high levels of competence and ethical conduct, and expand the number of trained and qualified specialists capable of addressing today’s diverse and evolving risk landscape.

To professionalize the arts, science and practice of Loss Prevention operations and management in all its ramifications; promote and foster global best practices in the profession, build a community of Loss Prevention Specialists; for meaningful networking, mentoring and peer support; continuing education, professional development, innovation and learning,
To design and develop the body of knowledge, education pathways, training standards, and experience requirements that define loss prevention operations and management in Canada. To establish clear professional standards and a code of ethics for individuals and organizations seeking membership in the loss prevention profession, both within Canada and across the global community.
To admit to the Association as members, only individuals and entities who demonstrate the highest standards of professional competence, skill, and integrity; and also, to maintain a register of its members and professional certification holders.

There is a clear shift in the world of asset protection. Organizations are moving away from the traditional guard, gate, and gun approach that once defined security practice. Today’s environment demands intellectual depth, a strong understanding of business processes, and expertise in corporate security management and asset protection. These capabilities now form the heart of modern loss prevention, enabling professionals to address adversaries and prevent losses with greater precision and strategic insight.
The Association of Chartered Loss Prevention Specialists of Canada recognizes this evolution. In response, the Association has developed a comprehensive program of professional studies that reflects the knowledge, competencies, and analytical skills required in contemporary loss prevention practice. The program leads to professional designation and certification marks; these are the CLPA, CLPO, CLPM, and ChLPS certifications, which together represent the highest standard of professionalism in the field of loss prevention.
